The people keeping Puget Sound safe.
We employ 19 full-time staff who provide the operational, administrative and technical expertise needed to keep the operations running at all hours.
Boat Crews
4 two-person crews (each with a Boat Operator and Deckhand/Engineer) work two-week rotations on 12-hour shifts. They are highly trained, licensed mariners who:
- Operate and maintain PSP’s two 74-foot pilot boats.
- Safely transfer pilots to and from vessels arriving or departing Puget Sound, at all hours and in all weather.
- Manage routine and emergency maintenance, repairs, haul-outs and major vessel projects.
- Keep the pilot station ready, clean and stocked, including provisioning the kitchen.

Dispatch
Four dispatchers rotate in two-week shifts to provide 24/7 coverage. They:
- Receive orders from ships and agents and assign pilots.
- Coordinate pilot movements to ensure on-time transfers at the correct locations.
- Adapt constantly to changing schedules and maintain proactive communication to ensure the right pilots are available when needed.
Finance & Administration
- Our team of accounting professionals manages accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and other financial services.
- Our Executive Director provides organizational leadership and oversees all PSP functions.
- Our Administrative Coordinator supports pilot administration and training, the Board of Directors, pilot committees and the Executive Director.

Board of Directors
Our board of directors consists of 7 pilots elected by pilot members to serve two-year terms. The board has supervision, control and direction of the management, affairs and property of the association.
PSP’s president is a member of the board of directors and serves as CEO of the association. The president is elected by Pilot members to a one-year term and provides day-to-day leadership of the association.
